A daily routine is absolutely necessary to bring radical change in body, mind, and consciousness. Routine helps to establish balance in one’s constitution. It calms Vata and Pitta, regularizes a Person’s biological clock, aids digestion, absorption and assimilation, and generates self-esteem, Discipline, peace, happiness, and longevity. It is more important than medicines.
Before I layout the Buddhist Daily Routine and Ayurvedic Diet, I need to explain what “Constitution”, “Vata” And “Pitta” are first. So that you can understand where the terms come from. Ayurveda is a system Of healing that has it roots in ancient India. It is thought by many scholars to be the oldest healing System extant on our planet. Ayuh means life and veda means knowledge. The knowledge Contained in Ayurveda deals with the nature, scope and purpose of life, and includes its Metaphysical and physical aspects- health and disease, happiness and sorrow, pain and pleasure. Ayurveda defines life as the conjunction of body, mind and spirit found in Cosmic Consciousness And embracing all of creation. Ayurveda states that the purpose of life is to know or realize The Creator, both within and without, and to express this Divinity in one’s daily life. According To Ayurveda, every individual life is a microcosm of the Cosmos.
Ayurveda is a medical science and its purpose is to heal and to maintain the quality and longevity Of life. It is an art of daily living that has evolved from practical, philosophical and spiritual Illumination, rooted in the understanding of Creation. It offers a profound understanding of each Person’s unique body, mind, and consciousness, which is the foundation of health and happiness.
So, with that said, Prakruti and Vikruti in Ayurveda is his or her unique prakruti , constitution, and Vikruti, current state, which reflects the altered state of the bodily humors or doshas: Vata, Pitta, And Kalpha. I’m not going to get in depth here, only because I will be offering a class down The road. We know that there are five elements on earth, we learned that in biology in high School. They are Space, Air, Fire, Water and Earth. And from this in Ayurvedic Medicine We know that Vata, Contains Space - Nuclear Energy, and Air - Electrical Energy. Pitta Contains Fire - Radiant Energy and Water - chemical energy and Kapha contains water - chemical Energy and earth - physical energy. Each individual person has either Vatta, Pitta, or Kapha Qualities, with some crossing over. Ie. I may be Kapha with some pitta and vatta qualities, or Kapha with Vatta qualities. These will be explained later as we continue to build the website.
Buddhism
Later, Ayurveda incorporated the philosophy of Buddhism, founded by Lord Buddha. The Essence of Buddha’s teachings is condensed within the four Noble Truths:
1. Suffering exists 2. There is a cause of suffering 3. There is cessation of suffering 4. There is a means to cease suffering.
